Pressure testing
On the line, pressure is one of the parameters that directly affects the performance of the final product. Too little pressure and the product will not dispense properly; too much pressure can lead to safety risks or rejects. Because deviations are not always visible, monitoring during production is necessary to maintain control.
Gas pressure measurement involves verifying whether the pressure inside the aerosol can falls within the set values. This can be done manually via the valve, usually at fixed intervals, or at specific points in the process, such as after filling or before crimping. These methods provide insight but remain dependent on sampling.
Measuring concept
Inline pressure measurement is based on an indirect measurement principle. By applying controlled mechanical pressure to the sidewall of the can, a measurement value is generated that correlates with the internal pressure.
This principle is combined with sensor technology and a system that learns what falls within defined quality limits. Based on this reference, the installation can determine during production whether a can meets the requirements or should be rejected. The system stores these settings, allowing quick changeovers between products without extensive recalibration.
This makes it possible to achieve stable production quickly, even with shorter production runs, without long setup times.
The in-line gas pressure tester
The pressure tester can be placed as a standalone unit within the line and is designed for 100% inspection during production. Depending on the configuration, the system can handle line speeds of up to approximately 150 cans per minute.
The system design is tailored to the environment in which it is used, such as food-grade environments or situations with ATEX requirements. Integration into existing lines and minimizing maintenance and changeover time are taken into account.
Key features of the application include:
- Suitable for integration into existing production lines
- Capable of handling different line speeds within one system
- Accuracy within a defined range, tailored to the application
- Support for multiple can formats
- Limited and manageable maintenance requirements
- User-friendly operation for operators
- Compact design
Depending on process needs, additional testing functions can be integrated. How this step is configured is determined per situation, ensuring the measurement aligns with production and operates reliably.
